On a large roof, if suitable slates are available, the half-inch graduations may be continued beyond 13½" with the prefixes "even" and "large". Slates up to 27" long are sometimes available. Collyweston slates are always laid in diminishing courses, from the eaves to the ridge. Widths of slates are always random.
